Getting Started
Welcome to Dicey.CC, a web-based character builder for tabletop RPGs. This guide explains what you can do with Dicey.CC and how the features change based on your account type.
Start by Creating a Free Account
Account Types
Dicey.CC offers three account tiers. The Always Free tier lets you create characters using the core rules. Patreon Membership gives limited access to the Content Library. The Premium Subscription unlocks all features.
Always Free
Anyone can create an account and build characters using the Savage Worlds Core Rules. No subscription is needed. Free users can use the Guided Setup and the Traditional Builder, but character creation is limited to the base ruleset without a world or campaign setting. You will need a copy of Savage Worlds to create a character.
Patreon Membership
Patreonmembers unlock the ability to create worlds (campaign settings) and populate them with custom content. Patreon members can:
- Create worlds using the Guided Setup or the World Editor.
- Create custom data elements (Edges, Hindrances, Skills, Gear, etc.) in the Data Manager.
- Select a world during character creation to use its setting rules and content.
- Add elements from the Content Library or other worlds to your own. This access is limited. You do not get the full text of the source, and you cannot build your own reference pack for characters.
Subscriber
Subscribers get full access to every feature in Dicey.CC. Along with everything Patreon members receive, subscribers can also:
- Clone data elements in the Data Manager (Patreon members can create and edit their own, but not clone elements from the content library).
- View full element summaries during the Guided Setup character builder (e.g., Edge and Hindrance details).
- Clone worlds to create a copy of an existing campaign setting.
- View detailed Gear notes during character creation.
- (COMING SOON!) Create custom reference packets for individual characters and campaign settings to use at the table.
Creating a Character
Dicey.CC gives you two ways to build a character: the Guided Setup wizard and the Traditional Builder. Both create a complete character sheet, but they guide you through the process differently. See the character creation guide for more details.
Free Users
Free users start the Guided Setup from the Home page under Quick Start. The wizard skips the world selection step and builds the character using only the Savage Worlds Core Rules.
Patreon Members and Subscribers
Patreon members and subscribers can choose a world when creating a character. The world’s setting rules, custom Edges, Hindrances, Skills, and other elements are added to the character automatically.
Creating a World
Worlds, or campaign settings, define the rules and content for characters created in them. Only subscribers and Patreonmembers can create worlds. See the world creation guide for more details.
Data Manager
The Data Manager lets you browse, create, and manage game elements like Edges, Hindrances, Skills, Gear, Powers, and Abilities.
- Free users can browse existing elements but cannot create or edit them.
- Patreon members can create and edit their own elements and assign them to their worlds.
- Subscribers can create and edit their own elements, as well as clone those from sourcebooks in the Content Library as a starting point, giving them full control over their content library.
