Starting the Flow
- Log into the Dicey.CC app.
- Under Quick Start, click the Create a Character button.
The wizard opens right on the Home page, showing a progress bar with numbered steps so you can see how far you've gone. If you want to stop or pause your progress, click the Cancel (X) button at the top. If you cancel, the character information is not saved and will be discarded.
Step 1: World
Start by choosing the campaign setting (world) the character belongs to.
- Use the search field to find a world by name.
- Once selected, a preview card shows the world’s name and description.
- You may change the character name (and probably should), though a default name is pre-filled.
- You must select a campaign setting and provide a character name before proceeding.
Step 2: Ancestry
If the campaign setting uses ancestries, select your character’s ancestry (race/species). Ancestries can grant special abilities and modify your base Traits.
- Browse the list of available ancestries or search by name if you’re looking for something specific.
- Click an ancestry to see its details, including any special abilities it grants.
- This step is skipped automatically when the campaign setting does not use ancestries. In this case, it is assumed your character is human.
- If only one ancestry is available in the setting, it will be selected automatically.
Step 3: Hindrances
Choose flaws that give your character personality and earn Hindrance Points you can spend on Edges, additional Attribute or Skill points, or more Starting Funds later.
- Search and add Hindrances from the list.
- Click a Hindrance to see more information. Click the “+” to immediately add the Hindrance to the character sheet.
- Major Hindrances earn 2 Hindrance Points; Minor hindrances earn 1 Hindrance Point.
- If a Hindrance can be either Major or Minor, use the dropdown to pick which one you want.
- Remove a Hindrance by clicking the X button next to it.
- A points tracker at the top shows your current total and maximum (usually 4 points).
- This step is optional and you may proceed without selecting any Hindrances.
Step 4: Attributes
Distribute your Attribute Points across the five Attributes.
- Each attribute starts at d4 (unless modified by your ancestry).
- Use the dropdown next to each attribute to raise its die type (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12).
- Each step up costs 1 point.
- The points tracker shows how many points remain. All points need to be spent before proceeding.
Step 5: Skills
Allocate your Skill Points across the available skills.
- Any Core Skills are added to the character automatically and indicated by a star.
- Additional skills can be added by searching and selecting the skill you want to add.
- Click to expand the skill’s information. Double-click to add the skill to your character.
- Raising a skill costs either 1 or 2 points per die step, depending on the skill’s linked attribute.
- The character’s skill list is displayed with die-rank dropdowns for each skill.
- All points must be allocated before proceeding.
Step 6: Edges
Spend Hindrance Points earned from Hindrances to purchase Edges.
- The number of available Hindrance Points is displayed at the top.
- Search for and add Edges.
- Click an Edge to see more information. Click the “+” to immediately add the Edge to the character sheet.
- This step is optional. Unspent Hindrance points can be further allocated in the Character Builder.
Step 7: Gear
Purchase any starting equipment you’d like using your character’s starting funds.
- A funds tracker shows your remaining budget.
- Search for and add weapons, armor, and gear available in the campaign setting.
- Click an item to see more information. Click the “+” to immediately add the item to the character sheet.
- Remove items by clicking the X button.
- Going over budget is flagged but does not prevent you from proceeding.
- This step is optional and is skipped entirely if the world uses the Wealth system.
Finishing Up
Click the Create button at the end. The cost of your equipment is subtracted from your starting funds, your character is saved, and you will then be taken to the Traditional Editor in edit mode, where you can continue to make changes or refine details.
